About our guest filmmakers
David Adkin is a freelance writer, researcher, editor, and director based in Toronto. His work includes Out: Stories of Lesbian and Gay Youth an important film about students across the country coming out in high school. He has also done work for the NFB designed to promote media literacy in Canadian schools, and other projects involving gay and lesbian issues.
Pamela Snell is a media artist, practitioner, and facilitator.. She holds an M.A. in Theatre and Media for Development from the University of Winchester, where she trained in participatory media techniques, and engaged vulnerable groups in arts based community development activities. She has led youth video projects in West Africa, England and Canada, gaining insight into learner-centered and youth-oriented pedagogy - which are evidenced in her approach to facilitation and curriculum development. She guides a process in which individuals and communities find their own unique voice and uncover their artistic spirit. Pamela is currently working with youth in a number of capacities across the City of Toronto, engaging them in dialogues about mental health, substance abuse, immigration, environmentalism, and identity. Pamela believes that the arts hold the capacity to break down barriers, advocate for change , and empower communities.
